Bodie State Park
One of the most authentic ghost towns in the West, Bodie is about an hour's drive north of Mammoth, past the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite. In 1870, more than 10,000 people lived in Bodie, mining $32 million in gold; today it's an eerie town full of ghost stories. There is unbelievable history tied to the town of Bodie. There is a small, authentic western museum where docents can answer many of your questions. The town of Bodie is said to be in “arrested decay”. Take a step back in time, this is a must see. The road to Bodie is not plowed and opens in late spring until the first snow in fall.
